MATCH PREVIEW ( CHELSEA - BURNLEY )
Antonio Conte has wasted no time in turning his Chelsea squad back into a winning machine. Two games into the new Premier League season and they have all the hallmarks of a side who are going to be up there come the end of the season. There has been none of the flourish, but their desperation to win has earned them the points.Against West Ham they looked to be heading towards a draw after James Collins cancelled out Eden Hazard’s opener, but Chelsea continued pushing forward. They got the breakthrough just a minute from time as Michy Batshuayi set up striking partner Diego Costa to net the winner. It was even more precarious last weekend when they visited Watford. Etienne Capoue grabbed the opener for the hosts ten minutes after half-time, and going into the final ten minutes the Hornets were still in front. Batshuayi turned scorer this time as he netted the equaliser just seven minutes after coming on, and Costa was there again seven minutes later to score the winner.Midweek allowed Batshuayi his first start as Chelsea hosted Bristol Rovers in the League Cup, and within half an hour he had put his new club in front again. Victor Moses doubled their lead a couple of minutes later before they were pegged back. However, Batshuayi found the net again before half-time, and despite conceding a penalty early in the second half Chelsea held on for the win.Burnley, after securing an instant return to the Premier League last season, started their top flight season with a very winnable home match against a depleted Swansea side. It wasn’t to be for them though, and they ended up losing 1-0 to a Swansea side with next to no strikers on their books.Their home game against Liverpool last weekend was a much more successful afternoon. They were penned back in their own half for much of the game, but their resolute defence limited Liverpool to speculative efforts from outside the box. This all came after Sam Vokes opened the scoring after just two minutes of play, and despite their lack of possession Andre Gray still managed to grab a second goal on the counter before half-time. Somehow, they held on for an impressive 2-0 win. While Chelsea have been filled with determination so far this season, they have also been struggling to break teams down in the early stages of the game and have been a bit wayward at the back as well. Burnley proved they are resolute at the back last week and this could be an issuein the early stages of the game for Chelsea. The visitors were incredibly effective on the break against Liverpool too, so that’s something a Chelsea defence yet to keep a clean sheet have to keep in mind.
